WIT-UPERIUM
APPALLING PRESS &
ARCHIVE is both an archive and an independent publishing house, so independent
that it does not work for profit, only to produce and spread interesting
materials and ideas.
We operate under the logic of F©! [Fuck copyright!], that is the
encouragement to reproduce and spread, by any means, what we publish.
We launch our first project: WIT-UPERIUM
A series of assembling volumes, made from the copies of the works sent by
each artists.
The underpinning idea of this assembly-zine is that of vituperium,
invective, in a word "attack" against someone (a public name) or
something (any kind of institution or product).
Works will be bound in numbered volumes under the title of Wit-uperium, a
title that underlines the indispensable characteristic: the attack and the
sophistication of the attack, that cannot be a simple "fuck you!" but
it has to bee mentally and esthetically compelling. Wit-uperium will be
published two-three times a year.
These are the technical aspects:
- Graphic work on any kind of surface (but not too heavy or thick
avoid metal and wood),
format must be A4. Leave ½ a inch on the left short side of the sheet so
that it can easily be bound.
- You must send 100 copies of your work (signed or not signed, it is up to
you).
- It is possible to send PC files (no Mac, sorry!).
If you send music files, an AVI video file, or if the file is too large
(more than 100 MB) you should send 100 copies of the CD, otherwise 2 CDs are
enough, we will take care of making copies.
- In the case of a DVD, you must provide 100 copies ready (possibly DVD-R
Region-Free).
- Works not included in the volumes will not be returned.
- Once a work appears in Wit-uperium, following the above-mentioned F©!,
it can be reproduced by any means, by anybody.
- All the artists whose works are selected, will receive a copy of
Wit-uperium.
- There is no due date, but the first issue should be out in the Spring 2005.

Goddess of Mercy and Compassion - Commemorate
Call for Art Submission by
Arti-Smoking
Quanyin the Chinese Goddess of Mercy and
Compassion, is one of the most universally beloved of deities in the Buddhist
tradition. She is a boddhisattva, a person who has earned the right to leave
this world of suffering and enter heaven, but instead has chosen to stay on
earth to help others reach enlightenment.
Arti-Smoking is organizing an exhibition
that represents angelic blessings and spirit of Quanyin for tobacco victims.
Arti-smoking invites artists to submit artworks that commemorate tobacco victims
and brings awareness of danger of tobacco smoking to the public. (According to
the World Health Organization, more than 5,000,000 people will die from tobacco
related illnesses this year globally.)
All submitted artworks will be exhibited
in the Arti-Smoking Gallery on its website and selected works will be exhibited
in a venue in Toronto, Canada during the summer of 2005. The submitted works
will be kept by Arti-Smoking’s archives for future exhibits.

aborde la question du rôle de l'art dans la société capitaliste sénile, à
partir de la coupure de presse suivante :
ENORME ERREUR que celle commise par une femme de ménage à la Tate Gallery, l'un des principaux musées d'art de Londres, en Grande-Breatagne : elle a jeté un sac poubelle qui faisait partie d'une exposition!
L'oeuvre signée de l'allemand Gustav Metzger, et datant de 1960, contenait des morceaux de carton et des vieux journaux.
L'artiste, aujourd'hui âgé de 78 ans, a remplacé le sac poubelle récuperé in extremis mais il l'a jugé trop abîmé"

Realities of time and place
"Realities of time and
place" is the theme for the upcoming mailart
show in May 2005. As long as the postal service will accept the art piece
for mailing and delivery it will be in the show.
There is no chance of rejection!
Artwork can be 2D or 3D and of any medium: photos, collages, stamp art,
paintings, sculptures etc, as long as the postal service accepts them
for mailing.
The artwork must bear the cancelled postage and the sender’s name and
state or country of origin.
The artwork is not juried nor is it returned to the artist.
Documentation will be given to all who participate.
A list of participating artists will be posted on CBAC’s web site,
www.cbayarts.org, along with photos of the artwork from the show.

How do you predict your future?
There are numerous ways to tell something about the future.
People have developed their ways to do so since the beginning of mankind.
Many of these ways however have fallen into disuse.
Either because it has been forgotten how to interpret these 'oracles', or just because some ways
have become old-fashioned.
Fortune-telling or divination is used a lot in these times.
Think about Tarot, Astrology and Palmistry.
More often than not people who use these methods are not very critical about the results.
They have themselves told some outcome and this is used or forgotten.
The most important part, the creation of the symbol and the interpretation are often left to 'specialists', while there is so much
to win by DIY-divination.
That's what this project is all about: create a system of divination which fits you as a suit, which belongs to you and your personal
fascinations.
Re-invent an old method or develop your own one.
Think about how to ask your question, how to obtain a result, and how to interpret it in regard to your question.
Document the process and/or the outcome and send it to the Mededeler (Communicator) for documentation both on the mancy-website and on
paper.
